...Favoritism was possibly applied?

In my rushed attempt to tie the two unrelated subthreads together I think I used a poor choice of words. It sounds like I'm saying the directors gave favorable treatment to their dinner companions because of possible friendship, etc. There are many more palatable reasons to associate with the decision than showing (biased) favoritism.

I apologize to the directors for my earlier statement.
