Favorable Review of Tournament in Atlanta

David, I applaude your decision to speak out publically and state that you won't return because you feel that you weren't treated fairly.
I mention a few things.
1) I was under the impression that here in the US 15 minutes grace period before penalty points was standard. (Although I've seen it shortened for Last Chance but when it has been, it is announced previously). When you registered, did you tell someone in charge that you'd just arrived due to a late flight may end up running a few minutes late?
2) Perhaps some of the directors and staff were driving and along with the large group (some were if I read Phil's post correctly) and could have been at least partially responsible for the delay ..ie they suggested to go to the distant (and likely famous) restaurant. If so, then they'd have to rule against players who were with them, and who may have been told that there'd be no time issues. IMHO, Phil did the prudent thing in deciding to eat at a closer venue. This whole situation seems unfortunate.
3) Getting large parties to dinners like this is never easy when a distance must be driven and especially when some of the drivers are from out of state and not familiar with the area. It can also be difficult to corral everybody and get them to and fro and seated and back in time. Players no longer in the event are less likely to care about expediency whereas those still playing certain do. That is just human nature. A better time for a big social BG dinner would be AFTER the event..ie Sunday night. Or it could be during a longer event if NO main event play is scheduled afterwards...ie 6 or 7 pm Saturday during a long weekend event (ie extra day(s) to play).
4) A couple decades ago, I arrived and was seating at my board at 7 pm like I was supposed to start my match after the dinenr break. My opp walked in at 7:30 complaining to the director that his dinner ran late. He was given no penalty points inspite of an announced 15 minute grace policy. I suspect this was because the director owned this guy in the calcutta. You might imagine that I never played at anything he directed again (fortunately he no longer directs).
