O.K., I see now how in principle this could happen.

It still seems more plausible to me, though, that it's simply a difference between Snowie and XG. Robertie's 501 Problems was checked against Snowie, as was Paul Lamford's Improve Your Backgammon. I don't know what rollout settings were used, or whether only 3-ply evaluations were used, but there are plenty of stark disagreements when the positions are run through XG.
