In Response To: Keeping things in perspective (Chuck Bower)

I basically agree with Chuck, but would like to reply to a few posts. Yes, there was an error in judgment. But I do not believe there was any favoritism. In fact, my understanding is that no penalty points were awarded at all in this tournament. I could be wrong on that, but the larger point is that the Director should be complimented for promoting an inclusive social event in connection with the tournament. And no, I don't think that "feeling bad" is a reason to forego the issuance of penalty points. I noted that earlier in response to suggestions that the Director was motivated by favoritism, or worse by Calcutta interests, which he apparently did not have.

I do think it's possible to be overly prescriptive/anal about these matters, and risk discouraging attendance by those players who view tournaments, at least in part, as a social event, rather than an opportunity to cash in on positive equity (whether real or perceived).
