Behind in the race, and facing 13 enemy checkers in the zone, splitting the anchor is anti-thematic, to say the least. Blue’s best strategy is to make a strong board behind White’s anchor, before his opponent has a chance to run.

Slotting the 5pt takes a step towards this goal. Slotting the 2pt does not.
