"But what if he owns another player, and his ruling in a dispute between players A and B could help player C, whom he owns?"

In this rather unlikely event, of course the committee member should recuse himself.

Suppose Player A is significantly stronger than Player B and the winner of their match goes onto play C (who you own in the Calcutta). Should you recuse yourself?

What if the winner of this match and Player C won't meet until two or three rounds later? Does that make a difference?

What if it still the first round, and nobody has been eliminated yet? In a sense, everyone has a stake in the decision because their equity in the tournament will go slightly up or down depending on which of A or B advances.

Where do you draw the line?
