Defending vs. a 1/3 backgame

Seems the first issue is whether or not to hit. Brown is 44 pips behind, which isn't enough to sustain a 3-1 backgame, so I'd say no to hitting and giving him another 16 pips. The next question is whether to break the 18pt. I'd say no, for the same reason: it allows Brown to hit and force Tan to hit back and give Brown more time. Once that is settled, it's a matter of shuffling spares. Moving off the 13pt looks right (see above), and I think 10/5 13/11 is a flexible way to do it. This allows me to slot the 2pt with small numbers if I choose, and to play a large number from the 11pt if I opt to hold the 18pt for another turn.
10/5 13/11
