i have over 30 years of clock experience e& observation guiding my thoughts- to be brutally honest I know more about using a clock in a visual board game than anyone who has commented thus far

...and you still don't have a clue when it comes to clocks and backgammon.

Yeah, 12 seconds delay is maybe too much, but no delay is absolutely ridiculous. I would understand if you wanted to change delay from 12 sec to 9 or 10 sec, and/or to shorten total time for longer matches, but throwing delay away completely is just very wrong.

If you think backgammon time controls are too slow currently, here is my idea to shorten total time:
instead of current: [total time (min)] = 2 x [match length] (min), to have:
[total time (min)] = [match length] + 5 min

This way, total time in matches would be:
5pt = 5+5 = 10min (same as before)
7pt = 7+5 = 12min (instead of 14min)
9pt = 9+5 = 14min (instead of 18min)
11pt = 11+5 = 16min (instead of 22min)
