Apology for the Late Response

Rod, I agree with your point that “an acknowledgement that an error was made and that a similar error wouldn't be made in the future would probably have ended the thing ages ago.” I actually wrote a response a couple of days after the event, but was only given a password today, so this has been my first opportunity to respond in this forum. I was a little hesitant to even send it at this late date, but it’s important that people know we were not just ignoring the comments or blowing people off. The following is the original response I wrote on April 29.
We’ve been reading everyone’s comments re: the Atlanta Spring Classic with great interest. I’d like to respond to the remarks, but first, we want to thank everyone who came to play. The level of players in the tournament was phenomenal. Overall, we think it was a great success, but obviously there were some glitches.
It’s too late to fix that now, but we have already decided how the issue will be handled in the future. 1) The brochure will not merely mention penalty points, but will be very specific re: when points will be assessed and how many; 2) There will be an announcement made before the games start that will be very clear on how the points work; and 3) We’ll follow our own rules by actually assessing points if necessary.
I also think we owe David Presser an apology. He had every reason to be upset about the way his situation was handled.
Overall, I believe we ran a great tournament and we’ve received some great comments. This year was our 5th time doing it, and we still have some bugs to work out, but we try to get better every year. Of course, the best way to do that is to listen to the feedback we get and learn from our mistakes. I can’t promise that we’ll never make a mistake again, but I can promise that we’ll continue to do everything we can to run a great tournament. Again, thanks to those who came to play and to everyone for their comments.
