Chase: I'm not following your thinking. Why would a spare on the 6pt make 13/10 better?

From a purely theoretical standpoint, you are far more likely to hit loose when you have a checker already in direct range for a cover. Positioning checkers that are currently indirectly impactful to the position to directly impactful is thematic in priming, blitzing and board building games.

Practically speaking: In this type of position, playing 13/10 isnt being wholly productive, its adding a joker number for white (64), which is better than any other hitting/entering number (as it doesnt have downsides, unlike the rest of the hitters).

Also when you are approaching a cube decision as either white or blue here, I suspect (only suspect) that if white fans once more then between a take and a pass, an additional builder on the 6pt will be enough to sway it (assuming a 13/10 play because of that builder).

I say these things as my way of examining play options, the wordage may be wrong, the theory may be wrong, but generally maximizing upside, minimizing downside is what each checker play is all about.

I think this example is mostly minimizing risk, not adding a blot, and keeping your position flexible.
