Well, I don't agree that the current time controls are a sham or horse manure. But they could certainly be tighter and still be reasonable. At my Labor Day event in Charlotte, I'll be running a "Faster Masters" that will have 13 point matches with 13 minutes reserve time and 10 second delay.

I can play all day long on an 8 second delay with reasonable reserve time. But I like 10 or 12 second delay better. Reserve time certainly should not be longer than it is now. Shorter might be better.

I don't have time right now, but I'll try to post an analysis of how the time controls looked for some of my matches in Atlanta. The differences in length of the various matches will illustrate the problems with time management in BG vs chess.

I'm also not a fan of touch-move, but I could live with it. I really don't want to make the game more like chess. I like that BG tourneys are much more social than chess tourneys. I would prefer to see the rules around checker shuffling stated more explicitly, and enforced.
