I like the generous time defaults used in Japan.

As a player, I would prefer the generous time defaults as well. I think this is the case with developing players that know some things about the game, but cannot next as many positions as experts can. Beginners on the other hand, probably do not have enough knowledge to use all the time and experts have enough knowledge to need less time (most of the times) because they do not need to estimate many things OTB, they just know them. Although I have played only a few matches with clocks (3 and a half), as a participant in a tournament I prefer 2 min bank time and 12 seconds delay, because I like a tournament to finish early.
