Thanks Jeremy. This is a very interesting position and excellent example of where the GG play does not give a good representation of correct play at extreme trailing pre-Crawford scores. Investigation of a range of critical scores shows that the normal double pointing play of 24/18(2) 13/7*(2) is correct at DMP, ULG (Money), GG+, GS+, and all other pre-Crawford scores.
Usually, the GG play is the best guide to other Crawford scores where the trailer requires an even number of points to win the match, in my view. However, the extreme aggressive play of 13/7*(2)/1*(2) requires a gammon price of 0.65 to be correct (= gammon margin / overall loss margin = 0.0638/0.0978). This only occurs at 1 away 2 away, though it is close at 1 away 6 away where the gammon price is 0.63. Note that Backgammons and backgammon prices have little effect here because the backgammon margin is negligible.
At post-Crawford scores, assuming the position is doubled correctly before playing, then generally, the high gammon prices make the GG play correct. However, 1 away 5 away and 1 away 6 away are exceptions because here the trailer's gammon prices with a 2-cube (0.55 and 0.57 respectively) are both less than the critical value of 0.65.
