Amazing Coincidence!

What an amazing coincidence that the two people who are happy with the top-sided payouts happen to be the No. 2 and 3 Giants in the world and the clear favorites in this, and any event they enter. What were the odds that these two would feel this way?

And they are both wrong. Two of the smartest people I have ever known, and two of the best contributors to the game by the way, but way off in their thinking.

We no longer live in the times where hundreds of people think they are great players and that anyone can win. That was 20 or more years ago. Now we all know our odds of cashing and of any kind of reasonable return on our investment go way down the farther our PR goes up from the favorites. TIMES HAVE CHANGED and that is way attendance will not go up and the game grow, with this kind of thinking.

If you don't throw the fish a little food here and there, they won't swim in your pond. Very wealthy people aren't playing in the Masters and Open because they are tired of being taken. And it's you guys, Neil and Mochy, who are suffering the most by keeping the pond smaller. DO THE MATH! If you take 20 percent off of the winners to pay more places, how many more people have to enter for you to net the same amount of money? Keep in mind that YOU WON'T WIN EVERY TOURNAMENT either, and often you will be the one benefiting from being knocked out in the quarters.

I know good players who have not cashed in an ABT event in years....it's just not easy to do, and even if they do cash once out of 10 tournaments and take second consolation or something, what kind of return is that?

How much more will the game grow, will tournaments grow, if you spread the wealth a little? How much more would the top players make if we have many more players? More intermediates today means more open players in a couple of years and eventually more Masters players. Everyone benefits...not just the overall game, but the top players WHO STILL DON'T HAVE TO GIVE AWAY A HANDICAP to play with worse players.

You both would be making a lot more money in every event if we had more people competing, and one of the MAJOR reasons we don't is the price, the small number of people who cash, and the low odds of beating far better players in the long run and the fact that EVERYONE KNOWS THIS. Just because someone plays at 7 PR doesn't mean he's stupid and he's going to give you his money.

But you will make sooooooo much more when you increase the number of players. So will tournament promoters. And so will we all, as the more players we attract, THAT will also attract sponsors and money-added. How much more will you two make when there is money added? How many more people will enter when there is money added. That's a big part of what this game is missing, and it's strictly because we are keeping the numbers down with this current thinking.

Of course most of us listen more to people like Mochy and Neil, and to the tournament directors who have been around a long time and have given so much to this game. We respect them all highly. But in this area, THEY ARE WRONG, and they are short-sighted. Not just for the overall benefit of the game, but for themselves.
