Another factor not yet addressed is the number of 'local' players versus the number of 'travelling' players.

With an LA or Chicago tournament, as examples, a large percentage (perhaps as great as 50%) of the players are local. Thus, an increase in the entry fee is, essentially, directly proportional to a players expenses and directly proportional to the prize pool (a 1:1 ratio). For tournaments with limited local participants (as in the case of San Antonio), an increase in an entry fee is leveraged against the total expenditure per player. An increase of 5% in the total expenditures may well be reflected in a 25%-35% increase in the prize pool.

So, it is not equitable to compare tournaments in this regard.
