Effectively they are really a dual core machine.

Hm... AFAIK most components in a "module" exist in pairs, only the FPU with 256-Bit width exist only once (if i understand correctly if you use SSE and not AVX you can use 128-halfs in parallel), so it is much closer to 4 cores than to 2.

Just my 2 pennies....
