Here's some things I see (now) that might relevant:

1) Blue's two defensive points (and the associated continuation of a backgame) have value. 6/2*, 7/5 preserves that asset with chances to improve the homeboard (but at the cost of sometimes losing a 5-prime).

2) White's out-of-position checkers on his 2-point should be kept in that situation. Don't give up the 24-point lightly.

I'm also reminded (rightly or wrongly) of an auto-racing cliche': "you can't win the race on the first lap, but you sure can lose it."
