Using final score for receiving a point isn't a bad idea, it is just a new game with a new strategy.

That's fine, but it's not recognized as such. The people who want to use scores of matches in a scoring system tend to see it as a "tie break" quantity, and don't realize that using scores of matches alters the strategy of the game.

Game/competition/tournament format design is a tricky business, and people just don't recognize that enough.
