New Rules in LA--What is the verdict?

I played and watched a lot of backgammon in LA this weekend. I love the legal moves rules.
However, I must have seen dice repositioned several hundred times and I've yet to hear anyone announce they were repositioning the dice. That rule will be more difficult to get people used to over time and will create a few great brouhahas when someone finds out their move is over when they go to reposition the dice to allow them to look at alternate position after they've already moved the checker to a legal position. I don't disagree with the rule, just saying ...
One thing I did not like and I didn't have a chance to speak to Patrick about it later was his giving baffle boxes equivalent standing to dice cups. I heard one disagreement develop wherein one player wanted to use dice cups and the other player wanted to use a baffle box. Patrick was called in to resolve the dispute and was apparently giving equal weight to the two players. I'm not sure how it was resolved. I think baffle boxes and dice tubes should be declared approved non-standard equipment. By that I mean if both players wish to use them they are free to do so without having to seek permission to do so; however, if both players do not agree in their use then dice cups prevail.
