In the Wall Street Journal article referenced here: http://www.bgonline.org/forums/webbbs_config.pl?noframes;read=143279 they mentioned Slim Aaron's photographs. Unfamiliar with him, this led me to do a google image search for his pictures...which then led to a search for 70's backgammon pictures...and so on. I found some fascinating pics/pages:
