Glad to another one of these problems from Kit and Tami’s book.

My first reaction was to run. S (Split) = 20/11 moves a builder into the outer board in relative safety. White will find it difficult to prime the remaining runner with only 11 checkers up front.

On reflection, I began to see a different tactical plan. Making the anchor, and keeping it until a definitive front block is completed looks workable. White will have trouble keeping his outfield presence in place unless he runs off one of his anchors.

Making the 4pt, P (Point) = 9/4 8/4, does not interest me at all. It’s too loose. There is no reason to abandon the 8pt that primes White’s 2pt anchor.

Z (Reverse split) = 24/20, 13/8

Mike
