I'll try 13/6. If you keep trying to delay coming down to 2 checkers you lose a significant amount of race equity.

Also note that keeping 3 checkers makes the doubles of 11, 22, and 44 play worse. I am not sure that hitting chances would be that much less than the 5/36 you are worried about.
