If we play 8/4*/3, we leave 7 return shots. Not a lot, but we start to clear the wrong point, making the checkers on 11 and 13 even more stranded. Moreover, our racing lead doesn't compel us to hit, so why take the chance? I'd rather play safe and see what the next roll brings.
