Pépé le Moko - Im Dunkel von Algier

Jean Luc Godard looks in each chapter of "Introduction à une véritable histoire du cinéma" at several films and their differences (or better différance). According to this, you have to look at "Pépé le Moko" and "Casablanca". Suddenly you will see, "Casablanca" is colportage and " Pépé le Moko" the real life. Like Hubert Fichte said about Painters Proust Biography and the "Recherche" itself. Or about Genet in "Versuch über die Pubertät": L'idée de meurtre évoque souvent l'idée de mer, de marins. Ich hatte ihn schöner, falscher in Erinnerung: - L'idée de mer evoque souvent l' idee de meurtre.

Look at this (starting at 0:44:45). You will see two people talking about Paris, but you will smell and see Paris instantly. You will look in the face of a beautiful woman and a man (Jean Gabin never was seen again in a film as what he was: a beautiful man), you will see the shining eyes, but what you will see in reality, is Paris. That is the essence of Cinéma.

I saw the film first in tv at the age of eight, but only one time in my life at a movie - theater, by the way starting the affaire with the mother of my children.
