I hadn't planned on voting until I was separately asked my opinion on the problem and told that many people were voting for two up. I counted up the votes and it's close so I'll toss my vote into the mix. I would have naturally played 21, 9 but since two up is getting so much attention let me have a look.

  • 24/20 24/21 - Gives the opponent [11 22 33 44 31 42] 8 numbers that beat us down pretty firmly by pointing on us. On top of that obviously [66 55] are really strong. While we do have the stronger board (barely) with the two point being made I don't believe XG will hesitate double hitting us with [32 41]. When we are left alone next turn we will have [61 51 41 31 21 11 32 54 65] seventeen numbers that anchor somewhere. (though 61 is fugly)

  • 24/21, 13/9 - Gives the opponent [42 22 55] 4 numbers that point on us. On top of that [66 33 11] are clearly pretty strong. If we're left alone we have [63 53 43 32 31 41 21 11] fifteen numbers that make an anchor.

I don't know how to put my finger on it exactly but I feel like the immediate threat of getting pointed on so rudely with so many numbers combined with given up the area behind us without having an anchor when we're down in the race make coming up with two wrong.

I am not going to analyze the big split. I assume it's basically the same thing as the small split. Perhaps one is better than the other but I doubt I'd be able to tell.

21, 9
