Or perhaps a once per side use additional 1/2 cube.

If used by only one side and dropped, meaningless, since it is only 1/2 point.

So, you feel especially good about a position you've already cubed (or are just cubing) and you then use this cube. Opponent may act on it separately.

It would count as 1/2 point if dropped, 1 if taken and single, 2 (gammon) or 3 for a bg.

Weaker players can increase the volatility. Stronger players have another potential equity advantage.
