You mentioned a full (power of 2) bracket. Seeding that is less controversial. It's when you tell someone "you're not as good as Joe Blow so I'm giving him twice as much equity as you by giving him a bye." Yes, some other games/sports do that and I doubt it's fair there, either, but as we all know in BG who very difficult to measure "best".
