Seeding byes...

Seeding can be done without giving byes. It is not difficult to devise mathematics which would separate the seeded players without giving them significant additional chances of byes. I'm sure it could be done on any grid.

Seeding used to be done at ABT events (or more accurately, weekend events that later became the ABT. Its use was abolished because of various problems and complaints. I'm not in favor of seeding for most of the reasons given and one more. It doesn't accomplish much. The increase in the chance of the "best" player winning will be relatively small. And that will be also true of any other measure such as having two elite players in the finals. I believe this could be demonstrated with a Monte Carlo simulation if anyone was actually interested.
