Sometimes the hedge made at the start of the match is renegotiated at DMP or a score like 3A3A. I don't have any problem with that, especially since I've done it myself. The match is still played to completion, with a nominal winner and loser, even if the prize money has been split.

It isn't anything like settling a game the way it is done with a head-up money game or by two players within a chouette. To me, these issues are the proverbial apples and oranges. Settlements that disrupt the normal flow of match play should not be permitted, for reasons others here have already stated, unless the TD makes an exception to allow it.
