Good ruling/Bad Rule

It is unlikely that 10 seconds spent rolling the dice and deciding how to play a 54 would give Frank an unfair advantage in deciding how he should play a 44. Therefore, I think the rule works as it should. The delay allows the player time to perform the mechanics of the move. I feel it is appropriate to allow a player time to perform the mechanics of the move after the illegal move has been made. The real issue is the 10 minutes spent calling the director during which Frank would be able to think about how he was going to play his 44. The solution is not to call the director. The other player should immediately hit his clock restarting the delay and tell him to play it legally. This would put far greater pressure on the player to find the error and fix it while the delay is relentlessly declining than to call the director and restart the clock at some other point.
