With reference to iii, there is no illegal play until the clock is hit, so not only do you not have an ethical responsibility to point out the legal play before the clock is hit, you are wrong to do so. For one thing, you might be wrong and you might mislead your opponent into making what you think is the only play.

I kinda see your point here, but on the other hand there is a definite advantage to pointing out illegal plays as soon as possible to avoid a dispute about the original position afterwards. I know for sure if I my opponent spending time on playing 42 when the dice are showing 52, that I would let him know.

But stuff like "hmm... isn't that illegal?" while your opponent is thinking, when you're not really sure is probably not a good idea.
