Wouldn't 24/23 be the better split, though? 24/22 allows the D5 joker with major gammons.

With all things being equal (but which never are), split to higher point is better. Splitting to 22 point often let's you make that anchor. Splitting to 23 point...well, you don't want to make 23 point. D5 is a problem, but luckily that does not happen too often. Splitting to 22 point would be less attractive if her 8 point were made.

I'm still not sold on splitting at all. There is a youtube video lesson Mochy did once where he had a similar position. He said this position is a blitzing position for white (a broken 3 or 4 prime), as opposed to a priming position (3+ prime that is connected). He said the runners should NOT split against a blitzing position. He said they must RUN. But you can't run with this roll. However, against a priming position you would split and/or advance anchor.

I don't know to which Mochy's position you are referring to, but this position is a priming one, clearly. She made 4 point, no ugly stacks, and no checkers on lower points. She made an anchor, and you should try to do something with your back checkers now, when it is relatively safe to do. Splitting later, when she brings down more wood will be more dangerous. You can hope to win priming battle or roll D6 or D4 before she closes her bar and 5 point, but more often than you will be primed in.
