I always slot a 51, unless when leading (which only happens rarely).

I know that some of the strong Danes also slot an opening 51. In general I think slotting tends to lead to some good, and often interesting position types.

The small amount of equity I piss away by slotting is outweighed by the more interesting positions which is important for someone like myself who play BG for the fun and for the intellectual challenges.
