It's actually more complicated than a straight next.

There are legitimate issues about providing more timing in a backgame situation.

Most frequently, however, hitting on the edge of a prime in the homeboard to prevent increasing the prime is correct. It feels like hitting here is similarly correct to prevent the 4 point prime.
