I think I understand the need for split. I see it as a result of opponent's split and him having the 5 point that requires me to split before he brings more checkers into the zone.

Nonetheless, all of the above should also apply on the position I was asking about (31P-31P-52S-32). From my understanding the need to split is strong, especially with the 9th checker that white has in the zone.
