I'd think this is probably a small money double. ATS there is of course some advantage from the fact that an 8 cube never comes with a gammon threat, but I'd guess that's outweighed by how much the 30% dead cube takepoint might hurt, especially in variations where only one checker is closed out. It feels better to me to wait on opponents next move.
