I think I'll consider the US becoming more progressive in how they operate when the USBGF and ABT can unify in some way. The ABT brand is well known so it makes sense that people wish to hold onto that. I'd like to think some day there could be something akin to "USBGF-ABT". Bill Davis continues to have his brand, he can sanction events and maybe the USBGF can do promotion, deal with the rules (and any other divisions of labour)
I have a lot of respect for Bill Davis, and I have had direct dealing with him in the past. A master points system is a good idea IMHO, and so are ratings. If people could set aside the egos and find some common ground and have some unity in what they do, then I think it would make Backgammon more credible in the US (and hopefully more consistent).
If the US can't find unity in its main tournament series and the main federation in their country, then I don't hold out much hope that you'd find consensus world wide.
