Only a little over ten weeks until the 2014 Texas Backgammon Championships at The Menger Hotel - San Antonio. It will be upon us before we know it. The tournament will be another tremendous "destination tournament event". Ask anyone who attended this year. We think it will be bigger and better next year.
We will have ABT tournaments, USBGF tournaments, Masters and Limited Jackpots, Doubles, Seniors, the innovative Dual-Duel, the free-entry Ultimate Backgammon Challenge (for inexperienced tournament players), World Championship qualifiers, and more. All events will be held in the spacious, beautiful ballroom suite. We can comfortably accommodate 200+ players.
Other activities includes USBGF sponsored lectures by Phil Simborg, two Backgammon Widow's Receptions for non-playing guests, and a Super Bowl TV Party in the directors' suite(s) on Sunday evening after the tournament.
All of this takes place in the historic Menger Hotel in downtown San Antonio -- one of the most unique cities in the United States and one of the largest tourist and convention cities. The city is geared toward making visitors comfortable and having them enjoy themselves with the many available activities.
The Menger Hotel is a classic -- it opened in 1859 and is the oldest continually operating hotel in the USA west of the Mississippi River. The venue is across the street from The Alamo and one block from the Riverwalk -- a wonderland of shops, bars, and restaurants of every sort. The Riverwalk winds through much of downtown along the San Antonio river, perhaps fifteen feet below street level. It is an amazing area to behold and to enjoy.
Join us !!! You can play as much backgammon as you wish and you can enjoy a great tourist city with mild South Texas 'winter' weather. Come a day or two early or stay a day or two afterward -- as many did last year. The tournament hotel rates apply for three days before and after the actual tournament. Also, we still have a few tickets available for the Wednesday night, January 29, NBA game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls -- a great way to kick off your tournament stay.
We hope to see all of you in San Antonio !!!!
