Poker's world ranking system

I need to study this in more detail, but on first read it's similar to what I advocate - be based in a weighted manner on current data and just consider cashing (like Bill Davis's ABT system).

Question: Has poker interest risen or fallen since the advent of GPI? I'm not a poker player.
