You're absolutely correct. The same argument can be made against elo, W-L percentage, and the ABT and European points systems. The only metric that transcends global borders is eXtremeGammon's Performance Rating (PR). If we had PR for every single tournament match that was played, that would be an ideal way to rank everyone worldwide. Unfortunately that it is not available.

I feel my proposal moves in the direction of trying to achieve the benefits listed at the top of my web page. It won't realize them all 100%, but it's a lot better than doing nothing.
