Mike: The first play I eliminated is making the 4pt. Since both sides would have a two-point board, making the 4pt would seem to equalize the position. On roll, however, your opponent will have the initiative. That’s why I do not want to leave any targets

How does it equalize positions I dont understand?

After making 4pt, opp has 3pt, you have 4pt which is stronger. Opp's 8pt is stripped, your's not. You have also splitted the back checker to 18pt which gives control of the outfield. 18pt blot is not in danger because of opp's stripped 8pt and weak board, so I chose to play this move.
