I wrote a couple of articles on this over the years. In theory the stronger player really should make Box takes. The decision becomes increasingly complex depending who he must beat, upon the number of players, the order, the consulting rules, and of course the relative strength of the other players.

That's the theory. In practice ... Well, you know what happens in practice.
