Between the TV show, movies, concerts, and CDs, I am not sure whether Miley Cyrus grossed over a billion or under as her share of the Hannah Montana franchise. What I do know is that she is a very wealthy woman.
Now that the money is taken care of, it looks like she has decided to pursue music as a passion rather than a business. Evidently, she is happy to accept lower sales in order to make a recording like the one below. It ain’t commercial, but it sure sounds good! Even if this style is not your cup of tea, there is no denying the talent.
The Backyard Sessions
I agree 100% with Stick’s post that there is just as much good new music as there is old. Of course, that’s easy for me to say. I own CDs by the artists Spacehog, Smashing Pumpkins, and Pink that he linked earlier.
I also have a few CDs by the Disney kids I dissed (Britney, Jessica, Lindsey, Hillary, et. al.). Most of it is pretty dismal, but there are few good songs in there. Even Christina Aguilera, a Disney alumna whom I like, is more “leave it” than “take it” for me. I listen to it when I feel like slumming in the joyous glow of shiny pop.
The heavier stuff I really go for is more like what I linked in my earlier post. Here is more: Beth Hart with Jeff Beck absolutely nail this tribute in honor of Buddy Guy. At the end, that’s Alec Baldwin getting to his feet first, followed next by Jimmy Page, and then everyone else.
Of course, with a handle like Taper_Mike, I can’t close this off without mentioning the good ol’ Grateful Dead! So there you have it.
