Bob has a point.

Plus with divisions of 32 (in a 500 person field) skill differentials could be so small that luck is a massively overwhelming factor (as opposed to the, simply, significant factor it now is).

I think that to entice the top 1 or 2 tiers to participate you would need to ensure that they were money added events.
