The 3 was easy but I botched it. Taking the extra checker off is best because it is an extra checker and some of the time White can't even hang around long enough to get another shot and keep his board intact. There will usually be at least 8 or 9 checkers off if the possible repeat shot is hit.
Having only 30 sec left on the clock is no excuse here and really all I needed to do to end all doubt was to multiply 9 dances X 6 rolls that leave me gagging with a double blot which occurs more than 4% of the time.
Yes, there is a general rule for these positions...Take off the extra checker when the number of immediate shots is the same, unless 100% sure that it is wrong to do so.
