This is a shout out to all of the hard-working backgammon analysts who post on this forum: the USBGF magazine (Prime Time Backgammon) needs your contributions! The Federation, as you know, is a non-profit entity. It cannot pay, as some other sites do, for articles. True, we do have a few dedicated volunteers who write for the magazine regularly; but it was always meant to be a community project, dependent upon reader submissions. It would make our job incomparably easier if just a few of you could organize your researches to compose one or two analytical articles per year (think of them as extended forum posts). Any topic is fair game. Random examples: (1) bear-in technique against a deuce-point anchor, (2) the effect of gammon wins on redoubles in three-point matches (3) cube action when playing for table stakes, or (4) (from a recent thread): chouette money management equity and PR issues.
We are also always happy to receive essays on the sorts of topic that are discussed every day on the forum: ethical issues, clock use, the pros and cons of various tournament structures, the future of online play, comparative rating systems, flaws in and/or suggestions to improve XG, Nactaction, the lower bound (if it exists) to human PR levels, etc.
Articles should be submitted to Karen Davis: kadavis@jhsph.edu
Thanks in advance to all,
Bob Wachtel
