The technology exists but is not used for backgammon. Chess board uses piece with little chips in them and detect the position of all pieces. Surely it could be done the same with a bg board.

There is still a major hurdle: the dice. I am not sure people would agree to play with dice that have a chip in them.

Connecting both the clock (to get the time and a know when the turns end) and the board would allow to record and make live analyze for broadcasting.

The software to interpret the move will be a piece of cake.

Maybe the USBGF could contact manufacturers. the project could be founded by Kickstart or something equivalent.
