I have always instinctively avoided moving the back checkers into a final position that leaves blots on the 3 and 4 points (or 4 and 5 points). I don't know why any more than I suspect a baby monkey knows why it fears a snake without having to be told. Well, a while ago I noticed Bob Koca advocating just such a move on a couple of occasions. I assumed he'd finally lost his marbles once and for all (he IS a mathematician so you have to figure it 's inevitable at some point), but was amazed to see that the move, when it wasn't best, was at least a serious contender oftentimes. I have not fully teased out the proper circumstances wherein the Koca is indeed the proper move (often instead committing a Faux-ca), but am striving for the same knowledge that Justice Potter Stewart claimed about pornography. "I know it when I see it". Something about this position said "Koca" to me. There is some threat of the front man being attacked and having the 3 slotted seems like a positive thing. I don't know. That reasoning seems stupid even by this post's standards. In any case it feels like a Koca and Casper and Onur Alan agree with me. I leave it at that.
