No one has yet mentioned the best play in either of these positions.

In position 1 several of us talked about making the anchor before rejecting the idea.

In position 2 I said the following:

13/11(4) reduces the pressure from the holding game. The thing is, white's runner will be there for a while and 13/11(4) will almost surely create some blots from it's sheer awkwardness. We need to make a fourth point.

So, at least I considered the right play. That's a step in the right direction. (c:
