I don't think I'd describe two off as 'too aggressive because of how threes play'. I think I'd describe it as unnecessarily aggressive here because there aren't a lot of gammons to be had. When there are few gammons floating around typically a safer dmp type play is best. When there are more there tends to be a bigger difference in gammons thus making ripping two off correct. See variant below.

I agree between the two safe plays 6/3 5/off is best.
